Eugene S. Yim, MD

Dr. Eugene Sun Yim serves as the Chief of Service for Sports Medicine at Hoag and is a fellowship-trained Primary Care Sports Medicine physician with a background in Emergency Medicine. He specializes in the non-operative management of orthopedic injuries and serves as concierge primary physician to a select panel of patients through his roles with the Hoag Foundation, professional sports team affiliations, and corporate health partnerships.
Dr. Yim grew up in Dallas, Texas where he was exposed to sports through his father, a renowned world-champion martial artist. After pursuing his undergraduate education at Yale University, Dr. Yim moved to California to complete his medical degree at Stanford Medical School. While in medical school, Dr. Yim spent a year at the Harvard School of Public Health, obtaining a Masters in Public Health (M.P.H). He returned to Boston to complete his residency training in Emergency Medicine at the Harvard Affiliated Emergency Medicine Residency program at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. During his time in Boston, Dr. Yim served as the resident medical director for mass event first aid of the Boston Red Sox games at Fenway Park.
Following residency, Dr. Yim returned to California to complete a fellowship in Primary Care Sports Medicine at Stanford. As a staff member at the Stanford Sports Medicine Clinic, Dr. Yim helped care for all of the NCAA Division I athletes at Stanford University and served as a team physician for Stanford Football. He also had the opportunity to serve as the medical team physician for the San Francisco 49ers as well as the head medical team physician for the Los Angeles Chargers for seven seasons, helping care for professional football players in the NFL. Currently, he serves as the head team physician for the US Men’s and Women’s Volleyball teams and will help lead the medical team for the Olympics. In his free time, Dr. Yim enjoys spending time with his beautiful wife and is also a proud father to two amazing boys.
